Forthcoming Book Chapter in Boydell & Brewer Series

I am delighted to announce that my book chapter will be published in James Raven's edited volume, Global Exchanges of Knowledge in the Long Eighteenth Century: Ideas and Materialities c. 1650-1850. Chapter 9: “The Printing Press and Colonial Newspapers in the Lesser Antilles” examines the evolution of the newspaper as an archetypal print medium to an important means of information dissemination across the early modern Caribbean. The book is now available for pre-order from Boydell & Brewer Press, and will be released worldwide in March 2024.

Messengers of Empire Now Available!

My nonfiction book, Messengers of Empire: Print and Revolution in the Atlantic World has officially been released! The book was published by Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment and is now available for purchase in the UK, Europe and Australia. North American publication is scheduled for June 8, 2023. Copies of Messengers of Empire can be found on the official Oxford University Press website, as well as in many fine bookstores, including Waterstones, Blackwell’s, Barnes and Noble, Booktopia, Saxo, and Amazon US, UK, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, and Canada, among others. The book will be formally launched in Rome, Italy at the 16th International Congress for Eighteenth-Century Studies (July 3-7, 2023).

F.A. Morriello to present at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

On December 8th, I will be presenting a paper at the Twelfth Blount Postal History Symposium: Political Systems, Postal Administrations, and the Mail. The event is being hosted by the Smithsonian National Postal Museum at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. My presentation is entitled, “From Three Months to Three Seconds: The Evolution of Mail Delivery from the Renaissance to the Present Day” and explores the turbulent journey to reduce the delivery time of messages from three months by ship to mere seconds with the rise of digital technology. I’ve just received fantastic news that my forthcoming nonfiction book, Messengers of Empire: Print and Revolution in the Atlantic World will be officially launched in Rome, Italy at the 16th International Congress for Eighteenth-Century Studies (July 3-7, 2023). A big thank you to the wonderful editorial team at Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment for putting this together. I look forward to eating gelato and zipping around the streets of Rome on a Vespa next year (Well, probably not the latter, but definitely the former).

Messengers of Empire to be published by Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment

I am delighted to announce that my nonfiction book, Messengers of Empire: Print and Revolution in the Atlantic World will be published in May 2023 by Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment. This history book examines how war, revolution, politics, and the environment impacted the circulation of news and information across the Atlantic Ocean during the turbulent period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It draws on primary documents that have rarely, if ever been seen before from 22 individual archives on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. I’m excited to share further information on the book and future media appearances as they become available in the coming months, so stay tuned!
